McNabb traded to Redskins

McNabb now a Skin

The Eagles traded QB Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins on Sunday for the Eagles 37th overall pick in this years NFL draft along with either a 3rd or 4th round pick in next years draft, that pick will be determined by Donovan’s performance  next season.

Let me start by saying that I think the Eagles are retarded for trading such an impact player within their own division. I understand that this move stemmed mostly from the fact that all 3 QB’s in the Eagles organization were in the final year of their contracts but it’s hard for me to believe that there weren’t more talented teams interested in McNabb. The argument that Andy Reid traded him to the Redskins for his benefit instead of sending him to the Raiders, Rams or Bills doesn’t seem real sincere seeing that the Redskins were only 4-12 last year, so how can the argument be made that Reid was doing him a favor. An example of a team I thought was or should’ve been interested in McNabb was the Minnesota Vikings who we all know are going to end up waiting until at least the start of training camp to find out whether or not Brett Favre will be returning to the team when for just a 2nd round pick they could’ve had McNabb whose talent on the field is close to if not equal to Favre’s (at this point in Favre’s career) and can give the team at least 3-4 more good productive years of playing opposed to Favre who in all likelihood will only manage another year if he even comes back. Not to mention that McNabb and Vikings head coach Brad Childress have history together. Childress was the quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia when McNabb was drafted and later became the offensive coordinator.

Alas McNabb is now a Redskin and you never know what could happen. Mike Shanahan joined the Broncos when John Elway was 35 years old and proceeded to win 2 Super Bowls. McNabb is 31 years old and is one of the more under appreciated quarterbacks around. That probably has a lot to do with the fact that Philly fans are some of the worst fans there are, if the team wins they love the players but the second they lose they want everybody fired and kicked out of the city. McNabb has been booed by Philly fans since he was drafted from Syracuse. McNabb has since racked up twice as many wins as he has losses, he’s thrown 216 TD’s to only 100 INT’s and he’s taken the Eagles to 5 NFC championship games and 1 super bowl. But the fans still love to hate him.

Nonetheless I really like Kevin Kolb and for the most part agree with the Eagles wanting to hand the team over to him. He’s got a strong arm, is agile enough to escape the pocket and make a play and is an accurate passer. Personally I’m most excited for Brent Celek, from a fantasy perspective I think he’ll be the biggest benefactor of Kolb starting. In the 3 games that Kolb played in last season Celek racked up 22 catches for 245 yards and 2 TD’s.
